Movie Reviews cum Updates
Feb 5, 2013

It's been forever yes I know. Even I've lost track of the number of movies I've seen. I'll start with the few recents that I can remember. Just short what-I-think review this time. I'm just really lazy and couldn't really be bothered to go on and on about them.

I. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Its was good. A minute let down to be honest from what I expected with all the hype but still nevertheless, good. First part of the three movies they split the book into. As always, the graphics are amazing. If you haven't already seen it, go. If you're wondering how good it is, I held my pee in for 3 hours even though I had to pee REALLY BADLY at the beginning of the movie. So... yeah. Go figure
Rating: 4.5/5

II. Les Miserables

Best damn movie musical I've seen in a very very VERY long time. 'Nuff said. I thought Russel Crowe did quite well. 'Bring Him Home' was slightly murdered by Hugh Jackman (I'm sorry, it was just awful) but he was still okay though his singing just deteriorated throughout the movie I feel. Samantha Barks was awesome and Anne Hathaway was just simply outstanding for a supporting actress role. Overall kickass movie. Recommended for everyone even if you're not a musical fan.
Rating: 5/5

III. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Was pretty good. It's gory with the blood and the shooting and what-nots but pretty okay movie. Thought it was good even though everyone's giving it bad reviews. But I do agree that they just need to stop remaking movies or doing spin-offs of classic childrens tales. Just, please. STOP. Hansel and Gretel were pretty bad-ass in the movie. Edward the troll is so cute. It's an okay movie to catch if you're bored and have nothing better to do but I wouldn't watch it again unless I really had nothing better to do.
Rating: 3.5/5

IV. Life of Pi

Very insightful movie about life and growing up. Touches a bit on religion so just to let those of you know if you plan on watching it and are a little sensitive on the issue. I thought it was pretty slow moving but it's got a really good storyline. Very well thought out. Not sure if it differs from the book much cause I haven't read it yet. Good in my opinion but nothing to hoot about.
Rating: 4/5

Just started college a couple weeks back and it's an honest hell. I sometimes find myself regretting going to the college that I chose but then again, the facilities and the courses offered are to my liking. Dilemmas of a college student. Would definitely be easier if the majority percentage of the people there weren't chinese school students who only converse in mandarin but well, it is a chinese college after all.  Just wish they would understand and converse in english when I'm actually there. Well, another year and a half and I'M OUT!

'Til the next time I find something new to blog about.

P.S For those celebrating Chinese New Year, a Happy Chinese New Year to you! :)
P.P.S Found some new awesome songs to add to the playlist. I might share. Or not ;)

Movie Review: Breaking Dawn Part 2
Nov 24, 2012

I am so angry right now it's not even funny. I can't even.. *frus* Anyway, hi all. Been looking through some quotes today and found one that really jumped at me.
"Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition"
That just speaks wonders to me. After all, some men are just useless. SOME. Not ALL. Don't go getting offended and start calling me sexist and bias cause I'm a girl. So on to the review.

Plot: Bella is enjoying her new life and new powers, after the birth of their daughter, Renesmee. Soon, however, their family bliss is threatened again, by a new menace. Vampire Irina believes a child like Renesmee could challenge the power and existence of the Volturi. As Irina rallies the Volturi to destroy this potential threat, Bella and the Cullens - together with any allies they can assemble - are preparing to fight a crucial, ultimate battle, to protect their family.

I do prefer the last two movies in the twilight saga. However, having read all the 4 books I do prefer them to the movies (of course I do, everyone does). This one wasn't too bad. Personally I would have loved to see the scene where everyone trains to get ready for the Volturi invasion. Renesmee is gorgeous. PG13 is not the right viewing class for this movie. They shouldn't even be having those scenes if they want it PG13. Don't we have enough pregnant-out-of-wedlock-cum-baby-dumping cases already? Sheesh. The beginning part where Bella wakes up for the first time and goes hunting was a little stupid for me but I liked the shots. Didn't quite like the ending much. Everyone in the audience pretty much got trolled by it. Won't spoil it for anyone of you who actually does read my blog but overall, it wasn't that bad a movie. I'd give it maybe 3 or 3.5/5-ish?
Got a bunch of movies lined up on my to-watch list. 'Til here then. Peace and love.

Cheers! xx

Movie Review: Looper
Oct 18, 2012

After such a long hiatus *drama* from the movie world, my other half and I went to catch one before his exams start next week. He chose since I absolutely refused to be the one choosing everything. I mean, really? Man up and make a decision already. Ladies, don't you just HATE it when you're the one having to choose and decide on, well, EVERYTHING. Anyways, we ended up watching Looper.

Plot
In a futuristic gangland, a 25 year-old killer named Joseph Simmons (Gordon-Levitt) works for a Mafia company in Kansas City in the year 2042 as a "Looper", where he kills and disposes of people who are sent by their employers known as "Gat Men" from their corporate headquarters in Shanghai from the year 2072. Loopers, like himself, are used as foot soldiers and are well paid on the terms that all hostages must never escape, including Loopers themselves. Gat Men are New York Accent-sounding men who are hired by a Southern Accented Godfather, who is portrayed by Jeff Daniels, who are being used as sentries, and each Gat Man has been given complete authority and responsibility in controlling their own group of Loopers. When one target arrives however he recognizes the 55 year-old victim (Willis) as himself and hesitates, allowing his older self to escape. The resulting failure of his job causes the Gat Men to come after him, forcing him to fight for his life as he hunts his older self.

I must say I was surprised. Its a really good movie. I'm not the kind of person who likes watching all these assassination cum violence cum shooting cum bones-breaking kinda shows, but this show was surprisingly good. I like the effects and stuff. For the sake of those who haven't watched it yet, I'm not going to describe anything yet so as not to spoil it for you but it is a show that I would recommend (I find the way they get high in the movie super cool). There's a good story-line behind it, not the typical assassin-type movie. Concept of the movie I find really good, future self talking to past self kinda thing. The movie's got some pretty good values to it as well. Overall, I give this movie a 4.5/5. Yes it was that good for me, a person who doesn't usually prefer this genre of movies, to give it that high a rating.

Til next time. Don't really know if there are any of you who read this but well, I'm feeling so syok sendiri at the moment don't really give a rat's arse ;)

Cheers! xx
